Varin Beach Resort Koh Lipe: Honest Review & Practical Tips 🏖️🌴

I’ve stayed at Varin Beach Resort a couple of times, and the last time I even extended my stay! But let’s talk about the elephant in the room—the bad reviews. Honestly, I get it. However, what I would say is your experience really depends on what you paid. I would not dismiss this resort completely as for some visitors to Koh Lipe it could be a good option. Here’s everything you need to know before booking your stay.

🛌 Rooms & Amenities: What to Expect

Varin Beach Resort offers various room types:

  • Budget Rooms: Basic fan rooms, paper-thin walls, older furniture, and sometimes issues with cleanliness and bathroom odours.
  • Standard & Superior Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms with TV, fridge, private bathrooms (hot showers), and daily bottled water.
  • Deluxe & Family Villas: Spacious rooms with better facilities, terraces, and more comfortable beds.

In my opinion, if you’re paying around $20 per night (like I did last time), it’s genuinely a bargain. However, I’ve heard of people paying over $100 during high season—personally, I wouldn’t be happy paying that price.

📍 Location: Ideal for Beach Lovers & Nightlife Enthusiasts

One undeniable advantage of Varin Beach Resort is its fantastic location:

  • Beachfront: Literally steps from Pattaya Beach 🏝️
  • Walking Street: Just 2 minutes away 🚶‍♂️
  • Restaurants & Shops: Within 2-5 minutes walk 🍽️🛍️
  • Convenience Stores: Nearby (3 min walk) 🛒

The beach itself is stunning—clear blue waters and soft white sand. The proximity to Walking Street makes it easy to enjoy local food stalls, bars, and shopping.

🍳 Breakfast & Dining: Good Enough for the Price?

Breakfast at Varin Beach Resort is buffet-style with Thai and Western options like eggs, pancakes, fruits, and basic beverages. If you paid $20 per night like me, the breakfast is definitely good enough. I however did not bother with the breakfast most days. Don’t expect gourmet quality—it’s simple and practical.

“The breakfast was poor and basic with warm juice and bad coffee.” — TripAdvisor reviewer

If you’re picky about your morning coffee ☕ or prefer more variety, there are plenty of cafes nearby.

🏊‍♂️ Resort Facilities: Pool Time!

One highlight worth mentioning is their swimming pool—clean, spacious enough for families, and a nice spot to relax after beach time.

  • Outdoor swimming pool 🌊
  • Child-friendly shallow area 👶
  • Poolside loungers available ☀️

🧹 Cleanliness & Service: Hit or Miss?

Service at Varin Beach Resort can be inconsistent:

Pros:

  • Friendly staff overall
  • Helpful reception during check-in/out (though slow at times)

Cons:

  • Cleanliness issues in budget rooms (marks on walls, toilet smells)
  • Mosquitoes can be problematic in some rooms 🦟
  • Slow check-in/check-out procedures

“Some areas so smelly. Got many mosquitoes inside and outside room.” — Recent guest review

💰 Value for Money: Is It Worth It?

Here’s my take:

Hotel NameAvg Price/nightLocationCleanlinessBreakfast QualityPool
Varin Beach Resort$20-$100+Excellent ✅Average ⚠️Basic ⚠️Yes ✅
Akira Beach Resort$120-$200Excellent ✅High ✅Excellent ✅Yes ✅
Green View Resort$40-$80Good ✅Basic ⚠️Basic ⚠️No ❌
Bundhaya Villas$100-$180Excellent ✅High ✅Good ✅Yes ✅

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option right on the beach and don’t mind basic facilities—Varin is great value at lower prices. For me it was simply a place to sleep. Not a place I want to hang around too much so if you expect higher standards or luxury comforts, consider nearby resorts like Sita Beach Resort or Bundhaya Villas situated at the end of Pattaya beach.

🌦️ Best Time to Visit & Seasonal Pricing

Koh Lipe’s peak season runs from November to April. Prices at Varin Beach Resort fluctuate significantly:

  • Low Season (May-Oct): Cheapest rates ($20-$40)
  • High Season (Nov-Apr): Prices spike ($80-$120+)

Plan accordingly!

From Varin Beach Resort you can easily access:

  • Snorkeling trips around Koh Adang 🐠
  • Island hopping tours 🚤

  • Fresh seafood BBQ dinners along Walking Street 🍤🔥

My personal tip? Don’t miss sunset cocktails at any of the other bars along Pattaya beach, —just a short stroll away!

🙋🏻‍♂️ My Final Thoughts & Who Should Stay Here?

Varin Beach Resort isn’t perfect—far from it—but it has its charms if you set realistic expectations. As someone who has stayed multiple times:

Stay here if…

  • You’re traveling on a tight budget.
  • You prioritize location over luxury.
  • You just need a place to sleep after exploring all day.

Avoid if…

  • You want spotless rooms and modern amenities.
  • You’re sensitive about cleanliness or noise.
  • You’re traveling for a special occasion or romantic getaway.

In short—at $20 per night it’s a steal; at $100+, I would look elsewhere. If you are the type of person that doesn’t spend a great deal of time in or around their room while on holiday it could be ideal for you. Hope this helps you make an informed decision! 😊🌅
