Koh Lipe Weather

The weather on Koh Lipe should not stop anyone visiting the island at any time of the year. Due to its tropical location the weather does not fluctuate much and the average temperatures on Koh Lipe remain pretty constant between each month.

Hot sunny weather can be had most of the year – even during the Wet/Low Season. Long periods of rain are uncommon at any time of the year, making it an ideal holiday destination.

The hottest months of the year are February, March and April with average temperatures between 27.5°C and 28.6°C .

The Peak/High Season, which runs between November and March is considered the best time to visit.

There are two clearly defined seasons on Koh Lipe. The Dry Season and the Wet Season:

The Dry Season

November – March. Dry with low humidity. Calm seas that are excellent for diving and swimming.

The dry season runs from November-March, and it is considered peak tourist season on Koh Lipe and hotel and resort prices usually increase with demand. The driest months of these months are December through to February. Humidity is at its lowest and the seas are calm and are ideal for snorkeling, diving and swimming.
It is also worth noting that there are more ferries to Koh Lipe during the dry season.

The Wet Season (Rainy Season)

March – October. Brief but heavy rainfall with plenty of sunny intervals. Quiet and relaxing!

The rainy season begins in March and rainfall steadily increases through to October – with rainfall at the highest point during the months of September and October. For comparison, the average rainfall for October is 344mm compared to only 47mm in February – the driest month of the year.

Rainfall in the Wet Season is usually brief but heavy with plenty of sunny intervals in-between. There can be long periods of rain on occasion but this is far less frequent than average short spells and should not deter anyone.

Humidity is higher and the seas can be choppy – resulting in fewer ferries running during the Wet Season. The Wet Season is considered the “Low Season” on Koh Lipe, however, there are many advantages to visiting Koh Lipe during this period. Accommodation is cheaper and plentiful. Koh Lipe beaches are also a lot quieter as some of the businesses are closed. There is a very laid-back feel to Koh Lipe during the Low Season so, if you want to get away from it all, the Low Season is an ideal time to visit.
